First Steps Toward Green Energy
Energy Efficient Lights
It is important to make sure we have energy efficient lighting in our homes. Of course we turn off lights when we leave the room so we don't waste energy,
but what do we do to make the lights themselves more energy efficient?
Compact Florescent Lights (CFL’S)
A CFL is a fluorescent light that fits into standard light sockets.
Light Emitting Diodes (LED’S)
LED's are probably the longest lasting bulbs you can buy. They are still fairly expensive but the prices are coming down.
Advantages of Energy Efficient Bulbs
More Energy Efficient
Energy efficient bulbs use about 1/4 the energy of regular lighting, putting less demand on our resources and saving you money.
Longer Lasting
Energy efficient bulbs last about 10 times longer. You don't need to change light bulbs as often, making them great for those places that hard to get to. You save energy and money.
An Inexpensive Investment
Initially, CFL's and LED's cost more but when you factor in their long life and energy efficiency, they come out much less expensive in the long run. They put far less demand on the power system making any cogeneration go further. If you're on a tight budget and can only afford one or two new bulbs at a time, that's fine. You will still be saving energy and money.
To maximize your savings, replace the bulbs you use the most first, such as bathroom and kitchen bulbs.
Easy, “Do-It-Yourself” Installation
All you do is change your light bulbs. There is no need to call the local handyman.
Perfect for Renters
Your new energy efficient lights are your investment. Take them with you when you move!
Save on cooling cost
Inefficient lighting converts most of the energy used into heat. LED's and CFL's radiate less heat; they feel cool to the touch.
